On May 18, 2024, Nordic Fano participated in a fundraising event organised by the Amhara Association in Stockholm, Sweden, and the Amhara Association in Europe. During this event, members of the Amhara community in Sweden discussed the Fano struggle and Amhara unity, addressing both those fighting on the ground in Ethiopia and the diaspora living abroad.
Guest journalist and human rights activist Habtamu Ayalew, currently a prominent figure in the Fano struggle, answered questions from Fano supporters. Ayalew emphasised the importance of creating a unified Fano force under a single command and urged the Amhara diaspora to organise and unite. The closed-door discussion also examined how the Amhara Fano movement contributes to building a diverse and equitable Ethiopia. The participants explored the challenges facing the Fano movement and Amhara unity and discussed the best ways to move forward.
Additionally, the event paid tribute to Professor Asrat Woeldeyes, commemorated by Ayalew Fente, who shared insights about Professor Asrat’s efforts to establish a united Amhara political organisation. Professor Asrat, who was imprisoned and tortured by the TPLF for five years, ultimately passed away after his release.
During the event, Nordic Fano had the opportunity to meet other Fano supporters who are not yet organised as Amhara Fano. They discussed strategies to expand the Nordic Fano movement, improve the dissemination of reliable information, and address misinformation regarding the Fano struggle in Ethiopia.
